Life is much too short, an American foreign businessman died today while we were Go Kart Racing together. Today the only Go Kart race track on Phu Quoc Island invited many foreigners out to enjoy a free day of BBQ, beer and Go Kart racing. I met a USA foreigner (Bob) at his hotel / bar / restaurant downtown (Called "I Love Phu Quoc") at 11:30 where he showed me all his newly remodeled building including a nice new parking area they did this morning. We talked about our mutual love for sports cars and we both formerly raced sports cars. He was from California and had first come to Vietnam about 5 years ago. He was about same age as me and we only knew each other a short time. Many of us foreigners with wives and girl friends gathered to go to Go Kart Track together for a 1 PM lunch. We let all the girls race first just to laugh at how slow they would go and how many crashes they would have. Then Bob and I lined up behind each other to begin our racing with 4 other guys. Many many laps we raced and on the very last lap Bob was heading into the pit and suffered a massive heart attack collapsing inside the Go Kart. On-site we tried to recover him with CPR and tried to call for Emergency Services but no one showed. Finally I ordered a German man that was only one that drove a truck to the race site to back his truck in guiding him myself and I moved the front seat to make way for them to lift Bob into the vehicle. We loaded Bob into the back seat and off they drove to the International Hospital not more than 5 KM away to the north. Bob was flat line upon arrival tp hospital emergency where doctors tried for 45 minutes to recover him to no success. The race cars were 200 cc and really drove fast handling very well. It was just one of those days. Nothing we could have done to prevent the sad event. I sent a phone text to his girl friend minutes ago telling her we were sorry for her loss. I know she will miss him so much. We will all miss him. God be with you Bob.
