Very good book store but one catering to Vietnamese speakers. There is a large collection of English books up on the first floor up, but these are overwhelmingly textbooks, grammars and dictionaries for learners of English, with a smaller number of items for learning Japanese and German through the medium of Vietnamese. There are some classic English novels and pulp, but nothing decent or challenging. There are a lot of simple readers for learners, children’s books (in English) and laminated wall posters, all also on the first floor, up a wide flight of stairs. This storey also has an extensive holding of textbooks for learning Vietnamese - something which’ll be necessary if you want to frequently browse the ground floor, filled with a huge range of Vietnamese books, as well as a corner devoted to stationary. Air-conditioned.

This bookstore is huge! I enjoyed going around and looking for books. They also sell school supplies and materials. Very warm and cozy place, I personally enjoyed my stay here.

Great selection of Vietnamese books which was what I was looking for; decent selection of foreign language books as well. Credit cards accepted.

Huge bookstore with wide range of Vietnamese and foreign literature. Staff could be more helpful and friendly as other reviewers already pointed out...

The place has a wide range of Vietnamese and foreign books, which is good. Other than that the staff looks bored most of the time and the book arrangement is not so inspiring.

Trying to get help from the staff is impossible. They don’t care, don’t want to sell. If you’re a foreigner and don’t know your way around this library, better avoid. It’s big and difficult to find something if staff refuses to provide help.

I just wanted to put in my 2 cents as someone who went here because it was the first result when I searched for ‘ESL bookstore’ in Hanoi on google maps . . . I found it so insufficient for buying the many supplies I require to teach online that I walked away empty handed. No English alphabet posters, no English-only flash cards (everything reverses to Vietnamese), and the worst sin: one of the most heavily bought publishers is out of New Delhi (Dreamland, if I remember correctly), and most of their books and posters have glaring errors: I noticed incorrect pronouns, misuse of plurals, misspellings by either US or UK usage, simply incorrect definitions on flash cards (that’s not a buffalo, it’s a bison, they are very different animals to an American) and culturally foreign examples (why is n for naan when n could be for nuts, or noodles?) That kills my soul as a teacher, kids trying to learn with flawed materials! The toy section has popular toys, not teaching toys. The store would do well to pay a well educated native English speaking teacher from the US or UK, with both online and in person teaching experience, to do an initial buy with them, and then just restock those items in perpetuity. A one-time consulting service like that would probably only cost 1000 or 1500 USD and would ensure they were the best ESL bookshop in Hanoi for years to come! Lol, I AM available! As for what they have that’s good, they had a great selection of books in English and French about Vietnamese history, culture, cooking, and points of interest in Hanoi. I obviously am not qualified to judge their Vietnamese language selection.
