It is a wonderful bronze memorial. But difficult to walk to.
like
(November 2018) I happened to accidentally arrive at this memorial at 12h30 while all the locals had vaporised so I didnt pay an entry fee and thus don't know what the cost is (there is a ticket office that will be open when the locals re-materialise at 13h30). There are 359 steps to the top and in the heat and humidity this can be taxing to non-triathletes. Sadly there is virtually nothing remaining to remember the French and their efforts and all there is is the statue at the top celebrating general Vo Nguyen Giap's victory over the French and their foolish arrogance in creating a military base in a very vulnerable position. Had I known that there was litle else to see I would have gone telephoto at the bottom of the stairs. The tunnel outpost, a nice fresh walk away, was more interesting. Who, after all, remembers the vanquished?
Nice place
Knwon as Dominique, this used to be one of the French strong points. The statue itself can be seen from below but it's worth going up the stairs if you want a good view of Dien Bien Phu and it's surrounding. The stairs can be challenging but it's worth it for the view.
Awesome...spiritual. historical. Sculpture is incredible. Especially up close. Loved it. Ty
Beautiful
Quiet place away from the loud traffic to watch the sunset and people doing sports in the evening. We went up at about 6 and nobody was in the ticket booth so we got in for free :-)
A huge monument of the Dien Bien Phu Victory!
