like
Busy market with many vendors selling a large variety of items. Places to get a drink, coffee or something to eat on the outskirts. Smells are quite strong around meat and seafood stalls and might overwhelm some people. A great variety of fruit and vegetables. Overall, place to get an idea of typical Vietnamese markets.
A little bit more expensive fruits, flowers. I think that because people must to import them from nearby province.
It is modern traditional
If you want a more authentic experience in Vietnam, avoid Ben Thanh market in Saigon, which is 100% tourist oriented. Take a day or two trip down to the beautiful city of Ben Tre on the Mekong River. This is my wife's hometown and one of my favorite places in Vietnam. If you're looking for a place to stay, try Ham Luong Tourist Hotel, which is situated right next to the Ham Luong River. You can get up early for breakfast, watch the cargo ships as they slowly cruise down the river and visit the market, which is within easy walking distance. Do keep in mind that like anywhere in Vietnam, the local merchants will very likely try to price gouge you, so it's probably a good idea to ask hotel staff what certain items cost locally, watch locals when they shop, or do some research on-line.
